She Wears Butterflies In Her Hair by Lynne Moncrieff

This art shrine is another sample made for HOCHANDA, where I decided to combine some of the earlier Bits ‘n’ Pieces Greyboard, the sweet butterflies with the art shrine which was being showcased on HOCHANDA.

The Art Shrines were a product which instantly appealed to me from when they were first launched. They work for all styles, themes and perfect for Mixed Media.

Supplies

That’s Crafty! Large Butterfly Wings, Small Butterflies – Bits’n’ Pieces Greyboard Surfaces
That’s Crafty! Acrylics: Antique Gold, Copper
Extras: Old crochet doily, collage image, floral fabric, old book page

Instructions

Assemble art shrine then apply Gesso. Onto craft sheet, apply paints, then press art shrine into the paints. It is messy but I’m okay with messy! Repeat this step for the butterflies, butterfly wings and MDF tag.

Stain floral fabric and ensure it is dry before adhering into recess of shrine. I leave the fabric to dry naturally and what I tend to do is stain items last thing at night and leave to dry overnight and I know it will definitely be ready for the next time I can give attention to it.

Stamp rainbow directly onto face of shrine. Now, create the little butterfly girl by cutting the prepared large butterfly wings in half, placing behind fussy cut collage image. Add snippets from vintage doily, including a floral motif placed in her hair, then layer the prepared butterflies. Add a butterfly to her neckline.

Stamp Affirmation onto old book page, the margin of it. Cut into word tiles, layering onto scraps of the stained fabric, adhering to the prepared tag. * Attach a thin piece of fabric to suspend the tag and place the ends of the fabric behind the butterfly girl*

To bottom edge, layer piece of the crochet doily, layering butterflies in corner of shrine.

She is ready to be displayed.
