Seek Stillness by Lynne Moncrieff

A nature inspired panel to share with you today which features quite a few That’s Crafty! products including the most fabulous Sand Texture Paste – it is such a beautiful texture to it and although I’ve used it here, simply applied to the panel, it also works beautifully with stencils.

Supplies

Extras: Coffee Granules, Maple Seed, Found Papers including dictionary page dipped into beeswax, feather

Instructions

My preference is to give a quick application of Gesso to the boards but it isn’t necessary when working on the white side of the panel.

Although you cannot see it, this panel was laid upon papers and items which had been outside (rusting and weathering!), some of it transferred to the panel, which is what I wanted. Then I smeared Sand Paste onto the panel, in a random fashion but ensuring there are areas not coated with the sand paste. When dry, sprinkle coffee granules onto the panel. Then take a deep breath and hold the panel, with granules, under a tap, blending the granules with fingertips. Tilt to allow coffee stain to drip and then lay flat to dry.

I had a greyboard feather already prepared with Gesso and Infusions. Gathered with found papers (book pages, naturally stained papers, cheesecloth fragment, you get the idea!) they are formed into a petite collage at the left side of the panel. Partially ink up Affirmation, stamping Seek Stillness onto fragment of naturally stained paper and small leaf from Affirmations stamped onto another piece of naturally stained found paper. They were layered onto book text which I had already dipped into melted beeswax, cracking when cooled to create texture.Final touches to the collage of maple seed, the greyboard feather and torn crochet lace.

My favourite way of working with That’s Crafty! metallic paints, applying them with my fingers. They are such a gorgeous texture and when I want just a mere hint of metallic, they are the most perfect paints. On nature themed projects, I like a subtle hint of metallic, it reminds me of dappled sunlight.

Until next time,

Wishes

Lynne
